Maybe you're wondering...why Pezzettino? The answer is simple...Two reasons:

bullet

Putting together one pezzettino ("small piece" in Italian) and another pezzettino, is what quilting is all about, and if you keep it up long enough you end up with... a quilt.

Pezzettino is also the main character in a wonderful book by Leo Lionni. Pezzettino thinks he must be part of something larger and tries to find whatever it is he belongs to...wonderful inspiration for a quilt as are many more of Lionni's books.

Herma de Ruiter:

I can't remember a life without fabric and yarn of some sort or other. I remember trying to knit as a little girl by twisting the yarn around the needles and then tapping them together...I was very frustrated when the desired result did not materialise. Not long after that my mother taught me to knit, embroider and sew and I've been doing that ever since. When my children were small I made them clothes and toys and now that they are grown I've fallen in love with quilting and everything connected to it.

A couple of years ago I discovered the Design Matters on-line courses. I started with the City & Guilds 7822-10 Patchwork and Quilting Certificate Online and am now working on the City & Guilds 7922-03 Patchwork and Quilting Certificate Online. It is wonderful to learn so many new things I can use to do what I love best: making beautiful things.

Herma Bouw:

I grew up in a house where making things yourself was the normal thing to do. I learnt to knit and sew at an early age (I got my first sewing machine when I was 6).
